About

Not just my personal blog, since March 1st 2011 positiveincline.com is also the company blog of Positive Incline Limited, my multi-client management consultancy.

My job is to help you understand your organisation’s systems more deeply (not just conceptually, but how they really perform in practice), to help find improvements, and to transfer the capability to sustain improvement over the longer term. This means much more than team coaching centred on effective work practices (though it can start there); as a former manager I understand very well the power that management has to create the conditions for success.

I come from a development background, an experienced global development manager, programme manager and product manager (and I still love programming) but much of what I do has application outside of IT. Success is about so much more than technology!

Teamwork and collaboration are recurring themes in my work and I partner internationally with some internationally-renowned consultancies both large and small. Much of my work has been abroad but don’t be put off if you’re UK-based – if you’re within reach of Matlock Bath in the Derbyshire Dales I would be especially delighted to hear from you!

My specialties:

  • The design and implementation of business process and quality improvement initiatives
  • IT/product development process design, organisation, operation and improvement
  • Kanban, Lean, Agile development

My biases and inspirations will be familiar to regular readers:

  • Teamwork, collaboration
  • Speed, flow
  • Transparency, visualisation
  • Observation, evidence, feedback loops
  • Kanban, Systems Thinking, Lean, A3, TOC

You can easily find me on LinkedIn and Twitter.  Friends and family can find me on Facebook.  Thanks to the wonders of Google Mail’s spam filtering I’m brave enough to give out my email address too: it’s mjb@asplake.co.uk; do drop me a line.
